The most action packed hour of hip-hop you'll load into your iPod so far this year comes courtesy of our O.G. Young Bookman, aka BookaBookaBookaBooka, aka DJ BOOK.
This is the face of a man who eats turntables as snacks before wiping his fingers on lesser DJs.
My crew is too fresh. Let us revisit the provacativity.

Jay Dee/Dilla/J Dilla/Dilla Dawg/Dill Withers/James Yancey both entered and left this world in the month of February, so it would be a travesty to let the month completely pass without paying proper tribute and celebrating the incredible music that was his life's work. With that thought in mind, tonight's party at Marvin should be amazing!
Thursday, February 25, 2010 9pm Marvin 2007 14th St NW DC
The all-star DJ lineup: RBI | Stylus | Book | JahSonic | 2-Tone Jones | Roddy Rod | J-Laine & Special Guests
$5 Donation (Proceeds to benefit The JDILLA Foundation)
The line-up of DJs alone should be enough to let you know that this event will be CRUCIAL. It's a CCCA & Decipher family takeover!
I'll be on the radio from 10-11pm (it's the last week of pledge drive-- please support WPFW and our show!!), but I fully intend on breaking land speed records getting from WPFW to 14th & U as soon as I get off-the-air!
Hope to see you there!
THIS JUST IN: I suddenly don't feel so bad about missing the first couple hours of the party at Marvin tonight... I've got an interview lined-up with Brand Nubian! They'll be at Liv on Saturday, so I'll help you get your mind right for that show as well. Yeah, that isht didn't happen... and that's why I never tease interviews before I've got the bamma(s) on the phone or sitting in the studio!
Saturday, February 27, 2010 9pm Liv 2001 11th St NW DC
Featuring: VON | Underdog| RBI | God's Killa A.W.R. BBoys | Tarica June | 2-Tone | Cornel West Theory
When Restaurant Marvin opened in Fall '07 surrounded by a lot of anticipation, Jamil got in on the ground floor.
But it was a Monday.
I can't pinpoint when it happened, but maybe that's because it was so subtle. A slow Monday night gradually morphed into the most soulful, funky and eclectic party in town. There was no promotion, no advertising and no fanfare. Even before the City Paper article, The Main Ingredient was a phenomenon born of word of mouth.
Where else in the city can you party HARD to The Police, Chubb Rock, Glenn Underground, Rare Essence and J*DaVeY all in the same set?
It's a DJ's dream come true to be able to rock a dancefloor consistently with records you believe in. It's fitting that the diligence of a DC veteran like Jamil has been rewarded with a vibrant weekly party full of like-minded souls. Let's not take it for granted.
The Soul Controllers would like to thank Marvin's dedicated party-goers for supporting DJ Jahsonic and the staff and ownership of Marvin for providing a space for The Main Ingredient to flourish. If you know someone who wasn't there on this INSANELY fun night, please pass on the goods.
